Welcome back to the blog! I think what I’m going to start doing, even if it’s just a couple of sentences, is give y’all a baby update. What these updates will consist of is her doctor appointments, her surgeries, how she’s doing, etc. Maybe I’ll do this weekly. Come on to the blog, start a draft, and while she’s sleeping, do something along the following:
Day of the Week:
What do y’all think?
Anyway, now on to the baby update!
She had a doctor’s appointment today for her weight update. She went from 6lbs 10oz on Thursday to 6lbs 11.5oz today. That’s 1.5oz in 6 days. It’s not the best, she needs to be gaining a heck of a lot more weight a heck of a lot more faster, but at least she’s gaining and not losing! The cleft team that we met with wanted her to gain at least 0.5oz a day… to me, that’s a lot for a 1 month old, but whatever they say. They’re the experts. Her pediatrician gave us a sheet of paper on how to make her formula bottles with more caloric intake or something. It’s a little confusing, but I’m sure with time, we’ll get used to it. I tried it today, but she spit up, and she’s been doing so good with not spitting up. I don’t know. I know as a mom, I should do what her doctors say, but I’m not sure if this is what we need to be doing to up her weight.
She’s sleeping more. She used to wake up every 3 hours to eat, now she’ll wake up between 3 and 4 hours to eat, sometimes she’ll go a little longer, but we wake her up after a certain amount of time.
The speech person on the cleft team has us feeding her a different way than what the NICU nurses told us to. We now have to keep her back straight with her chin parallel to the ground. It’s a little difficult because she’s not getting the whole bottle like she was before we switched to this new way of feeding.
I guess that’s going to be it for now.
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
First of all, I want to apologize to all my readers for not posting in almost two months. Since my last post, a lot has happened. I’ve given birth my beautiful daughter who is now one month and three days old. My sister came into town for the birth of my daughter. I’ve started taking online courses to get my high school diploma… I still don’t have it since being graduated from high school five years ago, ha ha! Those are the major things that I can think of at the moment.
I got to thinking about this blog the other day, and how fun it would’ve been to do something similar to what the YouTubers for the month of December. They do Vlogmas. They vlog from December 1 – Christmas Day. I thought that would be something fun to do, but instead of filming myself doing the same thing every day, I figured I would try and find some prompts, or questions online for what I would call Blogmas. Blogging December 1 – Christmas Day. Maybe I’ll do it next year. Let me know if that’s something that you would read, or want to read.
I’m sitting here on my couch, typing away, and I look over at my daughter in her swing rocker thing, and I got to thinking.. maybe I should update y’all on how she is and everything. If you don’t already know, she has a cleft lip and palate. We met with a whole team of people that’s going to be apart of her journey for the next 18 years of her life. We met two surgeons, a pediatric dentist, a speech therapist, and a lot more people. The team is wonderful. Her first surgery will be when she’s 3 months old and 10 pounds. She’s currently weighing 6lb 10oz. She was 6lb 14oz when she was born. She has a pediatrician appointment on Wednesday for her weight checkup. I’ll come back and update with that when we get home from her appointment Wednesday.
I would give an update on myself, but I don’t think you want to hear/read about my anxiety with postpartum.
I think that’s all the updates I have for you right now. If you want to see a birth story (I won’t get gross, I promise. I’ll keep it at a PG rating.) then let me know!
Thanks for reading! <3
